Amazing New Custom Bass Rods

My wife and I returned home from the Fredericksburg outdoor show with some amazing new JB Custom Bass Rods a couple weeks ago. I have since gotten a little play with the two I have and I’m just blown away to say the least.

Are We Believable?

Are we as anglers believable?
The Principal Feb. 2008

As an angler that is field or pro-staff for a company, there comes a time when you should ask yourself, am I believable?

I lead you into this topic to re-assure everyone of the importance of understanding the products you promote and represent. Ask yourself; do we know all we can know about each product? Have we done all our homework about the product line before presenting a given product to another angler or retail establishment? Do we just blow smoke and ad lib when we don’t know the answer?

Cold Water Fishing - In Search Of Smallmouth Bass

This past weekend had brought some warmer temps to the northeast region of the country and it was time for some probing of our local creek. My wife and I headed out Sat. afternoon to take advantage of the temps, our target: Smallmouth Bass, the place: Broadhead Creek. I will admit, the Broadhead Creek is known as a trout fishery but, there are some areas that natually hold real nice smallmouth. Being somewhat close to the river, I figured we may have a chance.

Equiped with our usual selection of soft-plastics, we started along the creek looking for what may be some good smallie water. We weren’t far from the river, they have to be here somewhere I thought. The water was high and fast with a decent stain from the recent rain that fell in our area but, we are here and we need to at least try.

I began with a tube fighting the current looking for any pocket that may hold a smallie or two. Needless to say, either I was not finding the right pockets, or the fish just were not hungry for my offering. I tried a few different plastics and even threw some hair jigs for awhile, just no luck on the end of my rod that day.

Meanwhile, in the same deeper section I started in, my wife is throwing her usual Case Magic Stik on a lead head. I can’t explain it but, she has the knack for finding fish. She didn’t catch a smallmouth but instead, manages to land a Brown Trout about 19″, on a Magic Stik no less. This is her first ever Trout and she lips it!

MrsM's first Trout

I have a confession to make: I am not what you call a trout angler, I do go once in awhile for some fun with a spinner, and have never tried to lip one, I just grab the fiesty trout. Aparently, trout have teeth and I find this out as she is yelling at me, “THIS HAS TEETH, HURRY UP WITH THAT PICTURE” and I struggle to get just one more picture of such a fine fish before her thumb is too torn up.

It wasn’t a day full of smallmouth action but, it sure was nice to see her catch and lip her first ever trout, and a nice brown on a bass bait, has to be a first for me to witness and another great memory.

If your getting a bad case of cabin fever, take some time and explore some moving water, you may find something you haven’t found or caught before.

New Bass Tackle 2008 - The Stand Up Jig.

2008 is sure to offer bass anglers a selection of hot new lures and equipment to think about. I have been testing one of Parasite Weights new products for 2008, it’s called the StandUp Jig, and boy, it does just that. (shown below)

The StandUp Jig

This new jig head from Parasite is really unique in the fact, it doesn’t require the smooth soft bottom other competetors standup jigs often need to stand properly. This jig is actually like a weeble wooble, it can wobble around and still somehow manages to stand up putting your bait into the strike zone, instead of lying on its side like most do.

Another key feature of the Parasite StandUp Jig is the line tie, or lack of, for a better word. When using this jig, the angler will first thread their line down through the first hole in the front. Then along a groove in the bottom of the jig and up through the second hole in the rear of the jig. From there, you tie on the included split ring and slide that over your hook, All Done and ready to fish a stand up jig head that delivers.

The new Parasite StandUp Jig is now available online and soon to be at a store near you, keep your eyes peeled for it. Made in the USA with only quality components.

You can order online today at ParasiteWeights.

Better Bass Baits - Case Plastics Catch Bass!

It was years ago when I first came across a lure called the “Madtom“, by Case Plastics. Looks just like the little Stonecats we used to gather in the river as kids for bait. Since then, Case Plastics has continued to produce more and equally effective soft-plastic baits for bass anglers. The “Jacks Worm” by Case Plastics is imo, one of the best smallmouth bass baits you can find anywhere. For those spending a ton of money each year on senkos for Largemouth bass, Case Plastics makes a “Magic Stik” that has an almost identical fall rate, it’s loaded with salt and best of all, it’s close to $2.00 per pack CHEAPER! For those spending alot of time wacky-rigging senkos, you should see the “Wacky Jack“, this bait is made just for that application, and catches loads of fish.

That’s just the start of a long list of soft-plastic baits, Case Plastics has to offer anglers. A quick visit to the Case Site and a stroll through the list of products will certainly blow your mind. So many baits by one comapny. Each bait is great quality and reasonably priced.

If you never heard of Case Plastics, now is the time to take a look.

User Profiles - An Important Marketing Tool!

User Profiles

Like any other kind of advertisement or promotion on the web, Member Profiles at forums, blogs and other social meeting places serve a purpose where & when ever they are available to you. The more information about yourself you can make available to be read somewhere on the web, the better.
Just about every fishing site you visit is an outlet to promote and get yourself noticied. You can’t imagine how many people scan through people’s profiles reading what is there, where they from etc. The bigger the site, the more people looking at profiles and some sites can mean alot of views, maybe even being contacted by someone after their reading your profile. Many people have nothing at all written in their personal profile while others make real good use of it.

Start filling in the information found in your personal profiles and gain more exposure at the fishing sites you visit. Angler promotion is a numbers game and the people who think and work at it, can win. I admit, most web sites have pretty basic profiles but, every view helps in the end.

If you’re an angler seeking more pro-staff tips like this, join us at The Angling Center and take advantage of the benifits being a member has to offer.

The Scrounger Jig - Setting The Angling World On Fire!

Rigged Scrounger JigThe Scrounger Jig!

I would like to introduce all of you to a great new bait my wife and I have been fishing with for the last month or better. It’s called the “Scrounger” and has recently been released by Aaron Martens Lures. This great new bait is based upon an old idea and was just recently made public back during the 2007 Bassmaster Classic.

It’s a swimming style jig head that will give any king of plastic a very distinct action and vibration much like that of a chatterbait. The Scrounger can be used for just about any kind of fish from a panfish to a saltwater striper and more, it can be tuned or customized to give you a certain action, and it’s rocking action makes it hard to get snagged. It can be used as a search bait or bounced across the bottom, the Scroungers uses are almost limitless with the wide range of plastics available to anglers these days.
My wife and I have been using different kinds of plastics on ours and each has produced fish. We both began with a Berkley “Real Stix” which was just amazing on this lure. I have since switched to a Lunker City “Fin-S” Fish and the Mrs. has switched to a big Jacks worm, both of these have produced alot of fish. If your looking for something new for a competetive edge or just looking for something to put on a kids pole so they can catch something too, try a Scrounger.

You can read more about the Scrounger in the Fishin Fanatics forums and see the complete line and purchase at Aaron Martens Lures. These new baits are making waves in the tournament scene for sure. I threw together a short video slide show (shown below) so you can get an idea of the action the Scrounger has and see some pictures of a few Scrounged fish, enjoy!
